The Professional Mediation Training, a significant event in the field of conflict resolution, took place at the Catholic University Ghana, Fiapre-Sunyani. Spanning five days, from the 7th to the 11th of August 2023, the training served as a pivotal platform for imparting essential knowledge in the realm of conflict management, with a particular focus on the art and science of mediation. This program was carefully designed to provide participants with a fundamental understanding of conflict dynamics and various resolution techniques, placing a strong emphasis on the role and skills of a mediator.

During this intensive training period, participants were engaged in a comprehensive 40-hour program. This duration is not arbitrary; it is a specific requirement set forth by the legal framework governing professional mediation training within the country. The purpose of this thorough and rigorous training regimen is to ensure that every participant is not only well-versed in the theoretical aspects of mediation but also adequately prepared for the practical challenges they will face in real-world mediation scenarios. Upon completion, participants are deemed to have met the necessary criteria to qualify for professional mediation practice in the country, a significant milestone for those aspiring to make a difference in this field.

The 2023 training session was notable for its diverse assembly of participants, with a total of fifty individuals from various corners of the country converging for this educational endeavor. These participants represented a wide spectrum of professional backgrounds, creating a rich tapestry of experiences and perspectives. The group included professional educators who play a crucial role in shaping minds, development workers involved in community improvement, tertiary students poised to be future leaders, business men and women at the forefront of economic development, and lawyers who navigate the intricacies of law and justice. Additionally, the training was attended by religious and traditional leaders, who are custodians of cultural and spiritual values, politicians who craft and influence policies, and security officers responsible for maintaining law and order. This blend of participants enriched the training, as each brought unique insights and experiences to the discussions and exercises.

The feedback from the participants at the conclusion of the training was overwhelmingly positive. They commended the training for its rich content that covered a wide array of topics pertinent to mediation and conflict resolution. The practical nature of the training was particularly appreciated, as it provided hands-on experience and real-life simulations, enabling participants to apply the concepts they learned in a controlled environment. The interactive and participatory approach of the sessions was another aspect that received high praise, as it facilitated active engagement, discussion, and exchange of ideas among participants. Lastly, the organization of the training was recognized for its efficiency and effectiveness, creating an environment conducive to learning and professional growth.

This successful event not only marked a significant step in the professional development of the participants but also contributed to the broader goal of promoting peace and understanding through skilled mediation across various sectors in the country.
