The Reverend Professor Peter Nkrumah Amponsah is a Catholic priest ordained in July 1989 after Philosophy and Theology training (1983 – 1989), served a year as an Assistant Priest and was posted to teach and help form minor seminarians at St. Hubert Seminary in Kumasi. From there, he pursued further studies, namely a Postgraduate Diploma in Communication Studies (1993) and an MPhil (Licentiate) in Social Communications (1997). He obtained his PhD in Journalism in 2001. Rev. Prof. Amponsah was appointed to the lectureship position at the Catholic University on July 1, 2003. Thus, he has served the University full-time since July 2003, when he took up the Catholic University's teaching appointment. He is one of the longest-serving academic staff. His service spans two decades as a lecturer, researcher, and administrator.
As a lecturer, he has great assessment reports. He has taught different levels in such courses as School Law and Ethics, Language & Communication Skills/Academic Writing, Introduction to Logic/Critical Thinking and Reasoning, Phenomenology of Religion, Foundations of Religious Experience, Mass Communications and the Media, Mass Communication and Public Health, Introduction to Mass Communication, Philosophy of Journalism, Introduction to Social Psychology, Media Ethics, Media Law and Regulation, Communication Policy, and Religion Reporting & Writing. Moreover, he has supervised several undergraduate students' projects. Also, he has supervised and assessed numerous postgraduate research works. The teaching and assessment roles across Faculties indicate the interdisciplinarity and versatility of his competencies. In addition to accomplishing the demands of teaching, Rev. Prof. Amponsah has proved himself as an academic. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Journalism in August 2018. His primary research interest is in communication law, ethics and policy. He also delves into studying the impact of information consumption and asymmetry in economic communication.
Rev. Prof. Amponsah has rich administrative experience. For his over twenty-year service in the Catholic University, he has served as the Chair or Member on almost all committees and boards. Apart from his extensive service in the Senate, he has held varied leadership positions at different points in the running of this institution, such as the Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences and Technology (now Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, Director of the Centre for Enrichment Studies (now absorbed by the Faculty of RSS), and Dean of the Faculty of Religions and Social Sciences (RSS), Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences, and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. He has also served as the representative of senior members (teaching) on the University Governing Council and is now the Pro Vice-Chancellor. In all of them, he works to improve the organisation and structures. He has been able to provide leadership, and his leadership contribution shows his dexterity in time management and ability to combine roles and responsibilities.
