I am Dr Serwaa Adu-Gyamfi, a dedicated educator and counsellor with a passion for guiding individuals toward their fullest potential. My journey in academia and counselling has been a fulfilling one, marked by a commitment to learning, growth, and service. Born and raised in Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashante Region of Ghana, I embarked on my academic journey at the esteemed University of Cape Coast. Here, I pursued my Bachelor of Education in Management, laying the foundation for a career focused on nurturing both minds and hearts. Fuelled by a desire to delve deeper into the realm of guidance and counselling, I continued my studies, earning a Master of Philosophy followed by a Doctorate in Guidance and Counselling. My career path has been diverse, encompassing roles as an educator, counsellor, and mentor. From serving as a National Service Person in the Human Resource Department of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to my tenure as a Part-Time Lecturer/Counsellor at the Institute of Education and Counselling Centre, University of Cape Coast, I have gained invaluable experience and insights into the intersection of education and mental health. Currently, I serve as a Lecturer and Counsellor at the Catholic University of Ghana, where I have the privilege of teaching and guiding both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This has allowed me to directly impact the lives of individuals seeking support and guidance. Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in organizing programs and initiatives aimed at promoting mental health and well-being. One notable accomplishment includes my assistance in the organization of the Peer Counselling program at the University of Cape Coast. My research interests span a wide range of topics, including adolescent counseling, drug abuse, spousal abuse, study skills counseling, career counseling, gender issues, adolescent reproductive health, and suicide awareness and prevention. Through my research endeavors, I strive to contribute to the body of knowledge in these critical areas and advocate for positive change. In addition to my professional responsibilities, I am actively engaged in various conferences, seminars, and workshops related to guidance and counseling. I have also served on committees and sub-committees dedicated to advancing the field, including the Training of Peer Counsellors and Conferences on Guidance and Counseling. As a member of esteemed professional bodies such as the Ghana Psychology Council, the Ghana Psychological Association, Women in Mental Health-Ghana, and the Counseling Association of Ghana, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in my practice. My journey in education and counselling has been defined by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, a steadfast commitment to service, and a deep-seated passion for empowering individuals to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. As I continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of mental health and education, I remain dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of those I serve, one student, one client, at a time.
